10    The Über-Mind and Pure Consciousness

An appealing feature of integrated information theory is its fecundity in spawning new ideas such as the primitive but effective consciousness meter I just discussed. Others pertain to the relevant spatiotemporal scale of granularity that maximize integrated information, which is the level at which experience occurs (see note 21 in the last chapter), the neural correlate of pure experience, and the creation of a single conscious mind by merging two brains, one of the theory’s more startling predictions. Before I go there, let me start out by discussing the opposite: splitting one brain into two minds.
